The Winchester Brewery Beers
We are delighted to have the opportunity to be able to brew Winchester beers. When we started the brewery we were determined to brew beers that tasted good and reflected good taste and tradition. We have reflected this in both the brewing and marketing of our beers, for example eschewing names that described parts of a dog's anatomy or were cheap word-plays.
For the recipes, we have researched beers that were drunk and brewed in Winchester in the past (we are not the first brewery to bear the Winchester name) and have used the information thus gathered to create beers similar to those enjoyed by residents of England's ancient capital in both the recent and distant past, updated to reflect modern, hygienic methods and equipment.
For example, West Window is a regularly brewed beer of 4.5 % abv and is described as Our premium bitter with a unique hop blend and brewed for high fermentation attenuation to give a tasty, satisfying pint that's light on the pallette. It is named after Winchester Cathedral's west window which was destroyed in the civil war and later restored as an abstract since no image of the original window existed to enable restorers to re-create the original..
